Life is Changing

We are moving back home in less than a month.

My husband it getting out of the Army after 14 years.
Well, not technically. He has re enlisted for the Reserves
for 6 years so he can finish out his retirement.

But, the day to day, active Army life we had lived for years now.
That is over in a month.

We are finally going home.
We are finally going to be around family,
live in the same house for more than 3 years,
and the kids will now get to have a stable school life.

I am very excited about it, but I am also scared to death.
My entire adult life, I have been an Army wife.
It's all I know.

Now what?
What will I do as a civilian wife?
Will I still make friends as easily?
Should I start my career now?
Will I hate being planted and not
able to move around anymore?

This new adventure has made for some interesting conversations
between me and my husband.
A new job, a new house, a new life.
A new everything.

It's a big adjustment.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11

This has always been my life verse.
I will cling to it now more than ever.

In the midst of all the chaos of moving, and planning, and Christmas,
I am still trying for normalcy.
So I am continuing my photography assignments.

This week for You Capture, the assignment was light.
I love taking pictures in different light.

  1. I felt the same way when my husband got out of the Army. My dad was in the Air force so the military was what I KNEW.It was a huge adjustment for me. I think the hardest part for me was the friend thing. It's definitely been harder for me to make friends especially now that I'm not working and we moved away from our family. When he was in the Army I felt like I had built in friends lol Girls who were going through exactly what I was.
Good luck with the transition! Having them home all the time is the best part. It makes it worth it =)

  2. As long as you've got a cozy fireplace like that one and a family to cuddle up with, "home" is relative. Good luck with the adjustment!

  3. Wow! That is a big change. And change is always scary. It will all sort itself out in time. It will be an adjustment, but I'm sure you'll figure it out. And around family! Finally! That is priceless! Nothing like family. :)

  4. Big changes, indeed! My mom's father was in the Marines during her entire childhood. She told stories about how she went to 3 different high schools...within a year...and how she never wanted to move after that. (My dad was also in the Marines, but for a much shorter period of time. He was in the Reserves when I was born, and got out entirely shortly after that.) I grew up thinking how exciting it would be to move--anywhere. :) As an adult, I've lived in 5 states (GA, MT, SC, NC, and VA) and it's still an adventure to me to move, but I would *love* to be around family again! Praying the moving process goes smoothly!
