This week I am so thankful for the friends who have graced my life. One in particular means a lot to me. We met in middle school and continued our friendship through the years.
Holly Enloe Wells and I were born two days apart and we loved to tell people that we were twins. And they always believed us. Because we looked oh so much alike, right?
When my family moved away from Weatherford when I was in the 9th grade, I was devastated. I loved my life there and I was going to miss all my friends and the school where I was comfortable. Holly knew what I was going through and helped me a lot. Her family offered to take me in and let me go to school in Weatherford. My mom was reluctant at first, but she knew how miserable I was, so she allowed it. I moved in with Holly and her family that summer and lived with them throughout high school.
I took it for granted then, but now I know what a wonderful, loving thing that was. I learned so much in those years. What living a Christian life looked like, what peace was in a family, and a lot of love!
Holly was my sister in all the ways that counted and I was so thankful for her. We were on the drill team together and practically did everything together. It really was wonderful.
After graduation, we began our own lives and drifted apart, but to this day I know she has my back and anytime I need a place to be, she will open her house to me and my family, just like her parents did all those years ago.
This week, I really thought about to whom I wanted to express my gratitude. There are so many in my life, I may have to extent this project past just four.
But for now, I chose my best friend for the past 15 years.
Michele was with me before this crazy life I call my own, before my marriage, before my kids, before the Army. We met in college and instantly hit if off. I am so happy she chose to put forth the effort to stay in my life even though we were constantly moving around the country. It didn't hurt that she loves to travel as much as I do.
She walked with me through many trials and a whole lot of triumphs. We have really had some good times together.
She's been there for the birth of all my babies.
Trina at 1 month
Josh at 4 months
Jamie at 1 day
I've seen her kids grow up.
And she's seen mine.
She has taught my kids a lot through the years.
I am so thankful she's been in my life. I know that no matter how far apart we are in miles, no matter how long it's been since we have visited one another, we will always be best friends.
